As your business grows, there will come a time when you need to delegate tasks to others. Often entrepreneurs find themselves to be the bottleneck. Eventually, there will not be enough hours in a day to do everything you have to do.

There are emotional barriers to delegating. You may wonder why you should spend 15 minutes training someone to do something that takes you five minutes. You feel as if you are the only one who can do the job right. You may be worried about losing  control. Perhaps, you are worried the task is too boring for an employee or you may find the task fun yourself. 9 Steps for Delegation

There are 9 steps towards delegating which fall into 3 different phases.

Planning

1) Determining tasks by listing assignments and determining what to delegate

2) Describing responsibilities in terms of guidelines, templates, project descriptions, etc.

3) Selecting an employee for the given task based on their skills and interest

Delegation

4) Describing the task in terms of expectation, the intention behind the task, process or methodology, and timeline

5) Briefing employees via email, phone call, or in a meeting.

6) Educating employees or provide training

Control

7) Supervising involves monitoring progress, evaluating the process, and checking in with the employee

8) Following-up on task completion and deadlines

9) Debriefing involves reviewing the results and identifying areas for improvement or greater responsibility
